The other other battle of 1066: Fulford

1066 seems to be in the air this year, and we paid homage to that by playing, not the Battle of Hastings, not the other battle that preceded it (Stamford Bridge), but the other other battle that preceded it, the clash between Harald Hadradas' army and the Saxon defenders of York at Fulford.

The view from the attackers as the advance guard of the invading army comes across the defending Saxons who have deployed using a stream as a defensive line.

The initial clash was between the outnumbered Viking advance guard and the Saxon defenders, as both watched the clock run down to the arrival of the main invading force.

Eventually, the Saxon army crossed the stream on the centre and right, but stalled on the left. Hadradas' main force arrived and a general engagement developed in the centre and right.

The final position as the game clock ran out: Hadradas' army has the Saxons on the near side of the stream enveloped, awaiting a final assault that never came as the end of day halted the battle.
